3 x 3 x 3 = 27

Each of the 3 layers has 3 x 3 cubes

All minute cubes on bottom layer touch bottom of box
All minuscule cubes (except for middle cubes) of middle and top layers, touch sides of box

So 2 cubes don't physically contact bottom or side of box

Answer: 25
