Answer:

After 4 weeks she reads 4x minutes

After 5 weeks she reads 5x minutes

Step-by-step explanation:

If Diane reads the same number of minutes each week then she reads x minutes each week. We then add up the minutes she reads every week since minutes read every week is constant

Therefore in week 1 she reads x minutes

In week 2 she reads x+x=2x minutes

In week 3 she reads x+x+x= 3x minutes

In week 4 she reads x+x+x+x =4x minutes

In week 5 she reads x+x+x+x+x =5x minutes

Assume x = 20 minutes

Therefore given that Diane reads 20 minutes each week, we skip the number line by 20 counts(minutes) each time

Hence for first week x, we count 20 minutes. For second week 2x, we counts 2*20= 40 minutes. For third week, we count 3*20 =60 minutes. For fourth week, we count 4*20= 80 minutes. For fifth week, we count 5*20= 100 minutes

Find attachment to see number line. The numbers with dots above indicate minutes read by Diane for each week till the 5th week, 100 minutes.
