I believe the answer is: Wisdom
Wisdom influences our ability to use the knowledge that we have in order to make a good judgment.
As we got older, our brain's function will deteriorate. But, older people tend to accumulate more experience compared to the younger ones. Those experiences will provide older people with knowledge that might not be known by younger people. They could use it as a core strength to make better judgments than younger people.
They avoid being detected because this would throw off the behavior patterns that exist naturally and they don't want their presence being known since this might throw it off.
Because
basically, in the first place, both are from different fields. While sociology
is more on arts, other sciences such as Physics, Biology and Chemistry are the
hard sciences. Hard sciences means that the experimentation requires a very
small amount of error, up to one percent. This experimentation uses materials
which really expensive and harmful. Meanwhile on sociology, it requires a room
of error up to five percent since some of its population is bound to different
errors such as human errors, etc.
