How do I solve 2x-3y=-1. y=x-1
nlexa [21]
Hello!

You can put in y for the first equation

2x - 3(x - 1) = -1

Distribute the -3

2x - 3x + 3 = -1

Combine like terms

-x + 3 = -1

Subtract 3 from both sides

-x = -4

Since x is negative we can multiply both sides by -1 to make x positive

x = 4

We can put x into the second equation to get y

y = 4 - 1

y = 3

The answers are x = 4 and y = 3

Hope this helps!

Janene and emily plan to go on a marathon training run. emily arrives late, so janene starts running 16 minutes before emily. ja
Rus_ich [418]
We write the kinematic equations for each one.
 We have then:
 For Janene:
 r = (9) * t
 For Emily:
 r = (8.25) * (t-16)
 Equating both equations:
 (9) * t = (8.25) * (t-16)
 t (9-8.25) = - 132
 t = -132 / (9-8.25)
 t = -176
 We observe that time is negative, which physically does not make sense.
 This means that Emily does NOT reach Janene.
 Answer:

Emily DOES NOT reach Janene
