A nice trick i use for word problems is that i highlight the numbers and what they are, like: liters, kilograms, grams, etc. say this is your word probem:

Suzie made <u>30 kilograms</u> of party mix chips and <u>40 liters of punch</u> for her party, Suzie had <u>20 people at her party</u>, how much punch and party mix chips will there be when the party is over?

I highlighted what i would have highlighted if it was a real word problem.

You are choosing between two plans at a discount warehouse. Plan A offers an annual membership fee of $30 and you pay 90% of t
docker41 [41]

The cost for plan A and plan B at a discount warehouse is $57 and $153 respectively.

<h3>Equation</h3>

Plan A:

  • Membership fee = $30

Manufacturer's recommended list price = 90%

= 90% × 30

= 0.9 × 30

= $27

Total cost of plan A = $30 + $27

= $57

Plan B:

  • Membership fee = $90

Manufacturer's recommended list price = 70%

= 70% × 90

= 0.7 × 90

= $63

Total cost of plan B = $90 + $63

= $153

Therefore, the cost for plan A and plan B at a discount warehouse is $57 and $153 respectively.

Your company recently made a purchase of 25 identical tables. The purchase price after adding 5 percent sales tax was 1,706.25.
ELEN [110]
If c = the cost of one table, the cost of all 25 tables before sales tax is 25·c

Since the sales tax is 5%, or 0.05, the sales tax for 25 tables is 25·c·0.05

Adding the sales tax to the original cost of the 25 tables can give you:
25·c + 25·c·0.05 = 1706.25
1.05·25·c = 1706.25
26.25·c = 1706.25
c = \frac{1706.25}{26.25} = 65

so the refund for 5 tables would be 5*65 = $325
