To find the number between each tick, subtract the range from the number of spaces in between, so 5000/5=1000. D would therefore be at 4000. Add 300 to that to get Sophia's score, 7000. This should be marked two ticks after where 500 is marked

No, because 2/5 in decimal form is 0.4 and 6/10 in decimal form is 0.6, so it's obviously not equal.
