Answer:

x = 2/3 or 0.66666666666

Step-by-step explanation:

Ok Andy heres what u do

5x + 3(1 – 2) = 2(x – 3) + 5 ---> ur gonna use substitution for this one

5x + 3 - 6 = 2x - 6 + 5 ---> equation should look like this after

since u have extra numbers on both sides left just add or subtract them

5x - 3 = 2x - 1 ---> now this would be ur final equation so all u have to do is solve!

5x - 3 = 2x - 1

   + 3 = 2x + 3

--------------------- ---> add 3 on both sides

    5x = 2x + 2

  - 2x = - 2x + 2

----------------------- ---> subtract 2x on both sides

    3x = 2

now u just do 2 ÷ 3 which equals 0.66666666666 or if u want ur answer to be in fraction then just leave it as 2/3 so do u get it now?

The amount a spring will stretch varies directly with the amount of weight attached to the spring. If a spring stretches 2.1 inc
aleksklad [387]

Answer:

1.05\ in

Step-by-step explanation:

we know that

A relationship between two variables, x, and y, represent a proportional variation if it can be expressed in the form y/x=k or y=kx

Let

x -----> the amount of weight

y ----- the amount a spring will stretch

we know that

For x=80 lb, y=2.1 in

<em>Find the value of k (constant of proportionality)</em>

k=y/x

substitute the values

k=2.1/80

The linear equation is

y=(2.1/80)x

How far will it stretch when 40 pounds is attached?

For x=40 lb

substitute the value of x in the linear equation and solve for y

y=(2.1/80)(40)=1.05\ in

the teacher separated her class of twenty-eight student into two group. one group has 4 more than twice as many students as the
mina [271]

For this case, the first thing we must do is define variables:

x: students of group 1

y: students of group 2

We now write the system of equations that models the problem:

x + y = 28\\y = 2x + 4

Solving the system by substitution we have:

x + (2x + 4) = 28\\3x + 4 = 28\\3x = 28-4

3x = 24

x = \frac{24}{3}\\x = 8

Then, the value of y is given by:

y = 2 (8) +4\\y = 16 + 4\\y = 20

Answer:

8 students of group 1

20 students of group 2
