I really don't know if my answer is going to help you but . . .

“Pretense” is a noun, and another form of the verb “pretend”. It is synonymous with “guise” “an act”, and can also refer to “a claim”, furthering its similarity to “pretend”. Pretense is the American spelling of the word, while pretence, with a “c”, is the British spelling. Here are some examples:

“He was hiding his anger under the pretense that everything was fine”

“She was not even making any pretence of hiding”

That is how you put "pretense" in a sentence . . . . . .

hope this helps even tho I do not think this is the answer

After reading the definition from the person who answered this first, I feel more comfortable answering this question because I didn't know what it was. lol.

Explanation:

Yes. Being a child in a household where everything must be perfect, you need to learn how to act like you are. Knowing that noone is perfect is another reason why my siblings and I don't have a super bad self-esstem but its still kinda depressing how low it is. When someone does something wrong or disobeys someone, the only way to save your little butt (***) is to put on an act. For example, someone ate the chips that were clearly not for us, because they were on my stepmoms shelf. I knew that It was me but I said that I saw her eating them someday last week. She began to think about it and came to the conclusion that she ate them... Imma good lier...
