perimeter = add all 3 sides 13+13+10 = 36 cm

 for area you need to find the height of the triangle, which is the red dotted line

to do that use the Pythagorean Theorem

a^2 + B^2= c^2

a^2 = height

a^2 +5^2 = 13^2

a^2 +25 = 169

a^2 = 169-25 = 144

a=square root(144) = 12

 so the height is 12

area = 1/2 h x b = 1/2 x 12 x 10 = 1/2x 120 = 60

area = 60 cm^2

 cost is $4 per square cm

 there is 60 square cm in the triangle so multiply 60 x 4 = $240

Two trains leave the station at the same time, one heading west and the other east. The westbound train travels 14 miles per hou
Sergeu [11.5K]

Answer:

The answer to your question is 166 mi/h

Step-by-step explanation:

Data

ve = rate eastbound train

vw = rate westbound train = ve - 14

distance = d = 900 mi

time = t = 5 h

Formula

v = \frac{distance}{time} = \frac{d}{t}

Substitution and simplification

ve = \frac{900}{5} = 180 mi/h

Now, substitute this value in the equation of vw

vw = 180 - 14

Result

vw = 166 mi/h

To the nearest tenth, find the perimeter of ∆ABC with vertices A(2,4), B(-2,1) and C(2,1). Show your work.
galina1969 [7]
First, we should calculate the lengths of the three sides (see the figure below).

The distance between two coordinates (x₁, y₁) and (x₂, y₂) is given by the formula
d= \sqrt{(x_{2}-x_{1})^{2}+(y_{2}-y_{1})^{2}}

Because the triangle is a right angle (indicated by the figure), we can determine the lengths of BC and AC easily.
The length of BC is the change in the x-coordinates, and AC is the change in the y-coordinates.
BC = 2 - (-2) = 4
AC = 4 - 1 = 3

To find AB, use the distance formula (the same as the Pythagorean theorem).
AB = √[(2-(2)) ²+ (4-1)² ] = √(4²+3²) = √25 = 5

The area of the triangle is (1/2)*BC*AC = (1/2)*4*3 = 6
