I've attached a picture showing how to do the cross multiplication. If you look at that, you'll see that once you cross multiply you get:
3 (x+6) = 4 (x+4)
Then we use the distributive property:
3x + 18 = 4x + 16
Now we need to get all the x's on one side and all the numbers on the other. Start by subtracting 3x from both sides
3x + 18 -3x = 4x + 16 -3x
On the left side they cancel out:
18 = x + 16
Subtract 16 from both sides:
18 - 16 = x + 16 - 16
It cancels out on the right, ans you get:
2 = x
There's your answer :)
