Pre-image ABCD is dilated to be image A′B′C′D′ . The origin is the center of dilation. What scale factor is used to create

the dilation? Enter your answer in the box. Two rectangles on a coordinate plane. rectangle ABCD has vertices a at (1, 4), b at (3, 4), c at (3, 1), and d at (1, 1). rectangle A prime b prime c prime d prime has coordinates a prime at (2, 8), b prime at (6, 8), c prime at (6, 2) and d prime at (2, 2).

Answer:

The scale factor of dilation is 2.

Step-by-step explanation:

From the given information it is notices that the vertices of preimage are A(1, 4), B(3, 4), C(3, 1), and D(1, 1). The vertices of image are A'(2, 8), B'(6, 8), C'(6, 2) and D'(2, 2).

The scale factor is the ratio of distance of a image of a vertex from the center of dilation and distance of the vertex from the center of dilation.

The center of dilation is origin. So, the scale factor is

k=\frac{OA'}{OA}           .... (1)

Distance formula:

d=\sqrt{(x_2-x_1)^2+(y_2-y_1)^2}

OA'=\sqrt{(2-0)^2+(8-0)^2}=\sqrt{4+64}=\sqrt{68}=2\sqrt{17}

OA=\sqrt{(1-0)^2+(4-0)^2}=\sqrt{1+16}=\sqrt{17}

Now, put these values in equation (1).

k=\frac{2\sqrt{17}}{\sqrt{17}}

k=2

Therefore the scale factor of dilation is 2.

A triangle can not be drawn with these side lengths. This is because when you add 2cm+8cm, it is not more than 11 cm.

The 2nd, 6th, 8th terms of an A.P. form a G.P. , find the common ratio and the general term of the G.P.
melisa1 [442]

The terms of an arithmetic progression, can form consecutive terms of a geometric progression.

  • The common ratio is: \mathbf{r = \frac{a + 5d}{a + d}}
  • The general term of the GP is: \mathbf{a_n = (a + d) \times (\frac{a + 5d}{a + d})^{n-1}}

The nth term of an AP is:

\mathbf{T_n = a + (n - 1)d}

So, the <em>2nd, 6th and 8th terms </em>of the AP are:

\mathbf{T_2 = a + d}

\mathbf{T_6 = a + 5d}

\mathbf{T_8 = a + 7d}

The <em>first, second and third terms </em>of the GP would be:

\mathbf{a_1 = a + d}

\mathbf{a_2 = a + 5d}

\mathbf{a_3 = a + 7d}

The common ratio (r) is calculated as:

\mathbf{r = \frac{a_2}{a_1}}

This gives

\mathbf{r = \frac{a + 5d}{a + d}}

The nth term of a GP is calculated using:

\mathbf{a_n = a_1r^{n-1}}

So, we have:

\mathbf{a_n = (a + d) \times (\frac{a + 5d}{a + d})^{n-1}}
