The 5 means you multiply 4x4 ( 5 times ) and the 7 means you multiply 8x8 ( 7 times )

For the first one, you take 4 and times itself 5 times. (the tiny number above the 4, which is the 5, is called an exponent) Like this 4*4*4*4*4= 1,024

and for the second one, you take 8 and times itself 7 times. Which the 7 is the exponent and 8 is just a normal number. Now you do 8*8*8*8*8*8*8 which equals 2,097, 152.

This isn’t apart of your question, but i think it will help you understand more. Say you had 2 with and exponent of 3. You would do 2*2*2. Your multiplying 2, 3 times. Now i know you might want to do 2*3=6. but that’s not how you do it. You do it like this:

2*2= 4 now you take that 4 and multiply that by 2. Which is 8. So 2 with an exponent of 3 is 8. Hope this helps.

Now try this on your own:

6 with and exponent of 2.

(6 is in the same place as the 8 or the 4 above, and the 2 is in the same place as the 5 and the 7.)

You don’t have to but if you want more help just message me! Hope you have a wonderful day, and get a good grade

Which expression is equivalent to n2 + 26n + 88 for all values of n?
Lelechka [254]

Answer:

Option B is correct.

The expression which is equivalent to  n^2+26n+88  is; (n+22)(n+4)

Explanation:

Given the equation: n^2+26n+88 for all values of n.

The quadratic equation in this form; ax^2+bx+c =0

First find two numbers that multiply to give ac and add to give b.

From the given equation;

a =1 , b = 26 and c =88

then,

the two number that multiply to give ac =88 is, 22 or 4

and they add up to give b=26 (i.e 22+4)

Now, rewrite the middle term i.e 26n with 22n and 4n , we have

n^2+22n+4n+88=0

Now, factor the first two terms and last two terms,

n(n+22)+4(n+22)

we see that (n+22) is common to both terms so, we have;

(n+22)(n+4)

Therefore, the expression (n+22)(n+4) is equivalent to  n^2+26n+88

Check:

(n+4)(n+22) = n\cdot n+ 22n+4n+88=n^2+26n+88   [ True]

x is 1/5 of y
x=y/5
subsitute
y/5+y=30
multily both sidse by 5
y+5y=150
add
6y=150
divide both sides by 6
y=25
subsitute
x=y/5
x=25/5
x=5
