Write one paragraph comparing the memoir and the article. Compare how the writers present similar ideas to the reader. Include e

vidence from the text to support your comparison.
Memoir: By the time my mother married my father, however, she knew all about the true nature of the dictatorship. Thousands had lost their lives in failed attempts to return the country to democracy. Family friends, whom she had assumed had dropped away of their own accord, turned out to have been disappeared. My father had been lucky. As a young man, he had narrowly escaped to Canada after the plot he had participated in as a student failed. This was to be the first of two escapes. That same year, 1937, El Generalísimo ordered the overnight slaughter of some eighteen thousand Haitians, who had come across the border to work on sugarcane plantations for slave wages. It was from my father that my mother learned why Trujillo hated blacks with such a vengeance, how he disguised his own Haitian ancestry, how he lightened his skin with makeup.

–“A Genetics of Justice,”
Julia Alvarez

Article:
The method his soldiers used in 1937 to try to identify those who would be killed was cruelly unique. When confronting someone in the lands along the border with Haiti, they would hold up a sprig of parsley and ask what it was. If the person responded by trilling the "r" in perejil (Spanish for parsley), he would be free to go. Anyone who didn't trill the "r" was thought to be a Haitian Creole speaker—and was likely to be killed.

Narrate an experience you had with a writing or reading task that you found (or still find) difficult or challenging. Explain th
Ksju [112]

Experience I Had with a Reading Task.

Since my school days, I had a difficulty in pronouncing the words with its correct and proper sound. For example take the word 'coward', I always used to speak it as 'co-ward' rather than its actual pronunciation 'ka-ward.' This used to happen with a lot many words. Over the period of time, I stated reading out loud and started watching tutorials to improve my pronunciation.

This experience was significant in the sense that it thought me: when it comes to English language, there isn't just one way of pronouncing words, different person pronounce certain words in a different way as long as he/she learns the correct pronunciation. And that can only be done by reading out lound and paying attention to how our teachers pronounce words.

jeyben [28]
While no poetic elements were stated in your question, imagery in poetry affects the mood, feelings, beliefs and expressions of the poem's reader. With vivid imagery techniques, the mood of the poem and the reader's reaction to it are both highly affected by imagery in poetry.

How did slaves in Ancient Greece differ from models of slavery in later societies?
Vladimir [108]
How did slaves in Ancient Greece differ from models of slavery in later societies?

Answer- Slavery was not connected with race in the ancient world. People were slaves because their side lost a recent war or as punishment for a crime (something still theoretically allowed in the US). They were not necessarily of a different race to the slave owners.

People didn’t necessarily see slaves as inferior. Slaves were sometimes employed as secretaries and tutors and it was prestigious to own an intelligent, educated, slave.
