Each person shakes 7 hands, but once you count the handshake between A and B, you don't need to count the handshake between B and A. There are a total of 8*7/2 = 28 handshakes.

Another way to look at it is
7 +6+5 +4 + 3 + 2 + 1 = 28

This problem is like the shaking hands problem having to do with what happens at the end of a hockey team. The winners sometimes stay on the ice and the first player goes down the line and "High Fives" all the other members of the team.

He's done so he goes to the dressing room. No more high 5s for him.
Next the second player does the same thing. Then he leaves the ice and so on down the to the last two players when one high fives the other.

Done.

Your problem is exactly the same.

The formula as you probably know is Sum = (n + 1)*n/2

Color-blindness is any abnormality of the color vision system that causes a person to see colors differently than most people or
Veronika [31]

Answer:

Correct option is (d): Neither X nor Y can be well-approximated by a normal random variable.

Step-by-step explanation:

The sample size of males having color-blindness is, n (X) = 20.

The sample size of females having color-blindness is, n (Y) = 40.

The proportion of males that suffer from color-blindness is, P (X) = 0.08.

The proportion of females that suffer from color-blindness is, P (Y) = 0.01.

Now both the random variables <em>X</em> and <em>Y</em> follows a Binomial distribution,

X\sim Bin(20, 0.08)\\Y\sim Bin(40, 0.01)

A normal distribution is used to approximate the binomial distribution if the sample is large, i.e <em>n</em> ≥ 30 and the probability of success is very close to 0.50.

Also if <em>np</em> ≥ 10 and <em>n</em> (1 - <em>p</em>) ≥ 10, the binomial distribution can be approximated by the normal distribution.

<u>For the sample of men (X):</u>

np=20\times0.08=1.610

In this case neither <em>n</em> > 30 nor <em>p</em> is close to 0.50.

And <em>np</em> < 10.

Thus, the random variable <em>X</em> cannot be approximated by the normal distribution.

<u>For the sample of men (Y):</u>

np=40\times0.01=0.410

In this case <em>n</em> > 30 but <em>p</em> is not close to 0.50.

And <em>np</em> < 10.

Thus, the random variable <em>Y</em> cannot be approximated by the normal distribution.

Thus, both the random variables cannot be approximated by the normal distribution.

The correct option is (d).

A diagonal of a cube measures StartRoot 294 EndRoot cm. The diagonal of a face measures 14 cm. What is the length of an edge of
hram777 [196]

The side of the edge of the cube is 9. 9cm

<h3>How to determine the length</h3>

Given that the diagonal of a cube measures the square root of 294cm and the diagonal of a face measures 14cm

To find the edge of the face, we know that the face of the cube is a square

Formula for diagonal of a square = \sqrt{2a}

Where is the side of the square

We then have,

\sqrt{2a}  = 14

Make 'a' the subject

a = \frac{14}{\sqrt{2} }

Simplify the surd

a = \frac{14}{\sqrt{2} } × \frac{14}{\sqrt{2} }

a = \frac{14\sqrt{2} }{2}

a = 7\sqrt{2}

a = 9. 9cm

Therefore, the side of the edge of the cube is 9. 9cm
