Explain why is there no work in the following:

Biology
1 answer:

Answer:

Explanation:

Well, this is one of those physics questions that relies heavily upon technicalities.

Something to remember is work is determined by force*distance.

1. When you are carrying a 15kg backpack, the weight or the backpack itself is quite indifferent. This is because the backpack is moving relative to you, so the backpack isn't doing diddly squat itself. The only force being exerted is yourself against the ground and vice versa because of gravity and Newton's Law, but when you have a horizontal distance (not vertical), the direction of your motion is 90 degrees to the exerted force. When you calculate this out using the formula and cos(90), you'll find the answer is technically 0.

If it were vertically, this'd be different.

2. Again, wording is important. Work is Force times DISTANCE. Key word in this situation, DISTANCE! When you push against a stationary wall (stationary as in, the wall "can do this all day" whereas you definitely can't), you're exerting a force against an object that really, really doesn't want to be moved. Walls in of themselves are MADE to not be moved, that's why they are walls. So, any force you exert is going to get multiplied by a distance of 0, and as we should know from basic times table charts, anything multiplied by 0 will ALWAYS be 0.

So, again, there's technically no WORK done, according to physics. Because again, work is a product of force and distance. So push harder, ya lazy good for nothin weakling!!

3. You can carry anything you want inside a vehicle, it doesn't mean there's any force being done. YOU'RE not doing squat, the vehicle itself is. In a tricycle, if the box is on the tricycle and not affecting you in any way, then there is no force being done despite an obviously moving distance.

By physics definition, there's EFFORT, but no WORK.

Hope this helps a little :)

A student claims that if the animal producing the spermatozoa has a mutation in a mitochondrial gene, the probability that any o
aalyn [17]

Answer:

Mitochondrial DNA is inherited from the maternal side

Explanation:

Mitochondrial DNA is inherited from the maternal side (from the oocyte). The mitochondria from the sperm cell including their DNA are degrade after fertilisation.

The size of the cells that make the zygote also contribute to this. The oocyte is much larger than the sperm, containing around 100,000 mitochondria, whereas the much smaller sperm cell only contains around 100. This means even initially, there are very few paternal mitochondria compared to maternal mitochondria in the first place, effectively diluting them out.

This, coupled with the degradation of the sperm mitochondria, means that offspring will not inherit mitochondrial DNA and any mutations from their father.

Why is biomass at the second trophic level in most ecosystems not as great as biomass at the first trophic
alexira [117]
Only about ten per cent of the biomass is transferred from each trophic level to the next. The remaining 90 per cent is used by the trophic level to complete life processes . Biomass can be lost between stages because not all of the matter eaten by an organism is digested.

What are reef producing coral called? What is the coral reef composed of? How are they created?
pantera1 [17]

A coral reef is made of thin layers of calcium carbonate. Coral polyps form a living mat over a calcium carbonate skeleton. Stony corals (or scleractinians) are the corals primarily responsible for laying the foundations of, and building up, reef structures.

Question 1 (5 points)
motikmotik

B) The water molecules remain together. The salt molecules break apart.

Step-by-step explanation:

When the salt is being place upon the water, the sodium in salt becomes attracted to the water molecules. Both H20(water) & NaCI (salt) start to become drawn, during this reaction. This causes water to remain together, while the salt is broken apart and dissolves. Hope this helps!

Select the correct answer. Which statement about natural selection is true? A. Natural selection and evolution are two terms for
Masja [62]

Answer:

C. Natural selection is the process by which organisms with more beneficial traits are more likely to survive and reproduce.

Explanation:

Natural selection is an evolutional process by which species of living organisms with stronger or more beneficial traits have higher chances of survival and reproduction. In other words, it is the process by which organisms adapt and survive.

Organisms in a population are all different in their own ways. And those with characteristics or traits better suited for the environment are more likely to survive than those without. The selection prefers more beneficial traits and not wholly on the superiority of the organism. So, the survival and reproduction chance of an organism depends on the presence of traits beneficial to the environment, which is how nature selects. And in this process, those selected will dominate the population while those rejected will be reduced or even die.

Thus, the correct answer is option C.
