<h2>Answer:</h2>

1. In ancient Greece, Delphi was the location of the Temple of Apollo. People came to this temple, the site of Greece's most famous oracle, with all kinds of questions, and Apollo's priestess would go into a trance and deliver the answers. These answers were like difficult to interpret and riddle-like.

2. As a literary device, allusion allows a writer to compress a great deal of meaning and significance into a word or phrase. However, allusions are only effective to the extent that they are recognized and understood by the reader, and that they are properly inferred and interpreted by the reader.

3. Allusions are an artful way of telling a story. They allow the writer to avoid bland tones and common, obvious statements. Instead, a little bread crumb can be dropped in an allusion and the reader can exercise their minds trying to figure out the author's intent.

The Great Chicago Fire theme
Vedmedyk [2.9K]

Answer:

Eric Klinenberg, assistant professor of sociology at New York University (formally of Northwestern University), wrote "Heat Wave: A Social Autopsy of Disaster in Chicago" in order to further investigate the devastating Chicago heat wave of 1995. From July 13h to July 20th, the heat led to over 700 deaths and thousands being hospitalized due to heat related illness. Following the catastrophe, there have been numerous medical, meteorological, and epidemiological studies done examining the reasons for the historic mortality rate, but none seemed to focus on the on underlying issues such as social etiology. In "Heat Wave", Klinenberg, a Chicago native, takes his fascination with the social possibilities surrounding the event to greater depths.…show more content…

Here, the key health and support services of the governmental organization, the police and fire departments, include officers who are rarely committed to "soft service" work. And lastly, in chapter 5 "The Spectacular City," Klinenberg speaks about media's involvement during that time. He investigates and interviews journalists, editors, and news companies, discussing the angles at which the disaster was portrayed and why this may be. More importantly, this chapter focuses on the cultural "reframing" of the actually news and information of the heat wave. He says that Chicago used its public relations tools to deny there was a disaster and then to claim it was a natural and unpreventable one. They defended the government's role while masking the social roots of the high mortality rates during the heat wave. I originally chose this book because the brief summary given to us in class had caused me to become more interested Klinenberg's findings throughout his extensive research. This book proved to correlate directly with many of the ideas we discussed in class.

Please write a book summary
gladu [14]

Answer:

Les Misérables by Victor Hugo

Explanation:

So this one is fairly different from the other one, it's a book that was originally written in French. It's about a man named Jean who goes to jail for a long time for stealing bread. He later gets out years later, and struggles finding shelter and a job because he used to be in jail. Anyways, he meets a guy who offers him shelter, and Jean later steals his silver to sell it, the man finds out but kind of allows him because he knows he's suffering.

This is all I know so far because I'm not done reading it, (it's a very big book) but I like it so far.

Also the book was written in 1845, it's old, but interesting. :D

A sequence of words forms a
Vlad [161]

Answer:

Phrase, Idiom or Sentence

Explanation:

A sequence of words that form a meaning can be a phrase, idiom or a sentence.

A phrase is a group of words that form a meaning. It can be a combination of a preposition and a noun, or an adjective and a noun. <em>Prepositional phrase</em> is for example "in the air", and an <em>adjectival phrase</em> is "a beautiful girl".

An idiom is a phrase that when formed, changes the meaning of the words in a phrase. For example,<em> "It's raining cats and dogs".</em> This sentence doesn't mean that literally cats and dogs fall from the sky, but it has a different meaning, which is <em>"It is heavily raining." </em>

A sentence is a group of words that must consist of at least subject and a verb, which can be followed by other words or phrases. For example, a phrase is <em>"a beautiful girl"</em> - it cannot be a sentence because it doesn't have a verb. If we say <em>"A beautiful girl is here."</em> - we make a sentence, because now it has a <em>subject (A beautiful girl), a verb (is) and a preposition of place (here). </em>
