Why do the levels of GH-RH and CRH rise during the resistance phase of the general adaptation syndrome?
Alenkinab [10]

Answer:

During the resistance phase of the general adaptation syndrome, the human body undergoes a process of adaptation or tolerance to stress, which requires an increase in levels of growth hormone (GH) and cortisol, so it is observed rise the levels of GHRH and CRH.

Explanation:

General adaptive syndrome is a product of the stress to which an individual is subjected, causing a number of symptoms reflecting the loss of normal body balance, symptoms that can be both physical and psychological. This syndrome has three phases:

 • Alarm phase.
 • Resistance phase.
 • Exhaustion phase.

The second phase, resistance, is due to an adaptation or tolerance when the stressful stimulus is maintained. At this stage, an increase in blood levels of growth hormone and cortisol -which contribute to the stress tolerance process- is usually observed, increasing the bioavailability of blood glucose and endogenous steroids.

Both GHRH (somatocrin) and CRH (corticotropin-releasing hormone) are produced by the hypothalamus and activate the release of GH and adrenocorticopotrotrope hormone (CRH) by the pituitary gland, producing:

 1. Increased levels of circulating growth hormone, necessary to regulate metabolism, and increase the amount of blood glucose.
 2. Increased levels of cortisol, from the adrenal glands, in response to stress.

In the resistance phase of general adaptative syndrome, GHRH and CRH levels increase to regulate adaptive changes that occur in the body of the individual who has it.

Stella wants to test the hypothesis “If carbon dioxide levels increase, the growth rate of sunflowers will increase.” She places
Jet001 [13]

The correct answer is option D. She should place one flower in a similar container, but not pump carbon dioxide into it. She should also give each plant the same amount of water.

In the experiment, a control should be present to compare the effect of the variable in the experiment. In the control sample, all the parameters except the variable should be same as the experimental group. In this way, the comparison of the effect of variable can be easily done in an experiment.

In this case, the variable is amount of carbon dioxide the plant receives. So, Stella should include a control group by placing the plant in the same container and leave it on atmospheric carbon dioxide supply, no extra carbon dioxide should be pumped into it. Also, the amount of water she give to each plant should be the same to maintain the water level as constant.

The overriding problem with both theories of muscle growth, hypertrophy and hyperplasia, is that __________. A. neither can be a
zhannawk [14.2K]

Answer: A. neither can be accepted as correct because muscles growth is difficult to study in humans.

Explanation:

Hypertrophy can be defined as the increase in the fiber size of the muscle whereas the hyperplasia can be defined as the increase in the number of muscle fibers. Additionally the hypertrophy suggests that adding more proteins to the fibers is suggestive of the growth of the muscles. But these two theories cannot be directly related to the muscle growth in humans as the development and growth of muscles are dependent upon several factors like diet, any kind of disease which restrict the muscle growth and movement, physical activities, mineral availability responsible for growth, malnutrition, and others.
