The street I live in has a lot of drug users and dealers that buy and sell daily, sometimes I notice people walking to the house across the street and clearly leaving with something, after my parents checked their security system we found that the people who live across from us sell drugs, cannabis specifically.
most people in my area are using because they are addicted, most addictions start with problems that eat away the users forcing them into drug use thinking it will numb them. I live in Pontiac, an area with not a lot of money but a whole lot of drug use and crime. The people who benefit from the drugs and drug use, is the cartel, they smuggle Cocaine and other bad drugs through the boarders and legal systems.
Their isn't much authorities can, or want to do. police in my area are running low so crime is increasing and the police, decreasing. the police in my area merely work for a paycheck, so actually working isn't a bliss to them.
cocaine was introduced as a party drug but soon came the most popular, and profitable, drug in the market. Cannabis is a legal drug in my state, it is used for medical reasons as long as you buy it safe, legally and often times, you must have a license.
