Solve for x as a positive and negative...

| 3x - 1/2 | = 3/2
DochEvi [55]

Answer:

x = 2/3                                           x = -1/3

Step-by-step explanation:

| 3x - 1/2 | = 3/2

We have two solutions, one positive and one negative

3x-1/2 = 3/2     and 3x-1/2 = -3/2

Add 1/2 to each side

3x-1/2+1/2 = 3/2+1/2     and 3x-1/2+1/2 = -3/2+1/2

3x = 4/2                                   3x = -2/2

3x = 2                                         3x = -1

Divide by 3

3x/3 = 2/3                                     3x/2 = -1/3

x = 2/3                                           x = -1/3
