Explanation:

Plants haven't always been on the surface of the earth. Life was restricted to water for a long time. The first plants arose from green algae that resembled the Chara in the image above. Bacteria living in water were the earliest photosynthetic creatures. Soon, as algae evolved, and water drifted away, plants were found on land. Land plants had adaptations that would help their future generations.
