furs were also traded for manufactured goods, firearms, and metal tools (which helped with trapping and other daily jobs)

Negative effects from fur trading:

animals were hunted to near extinction

American Indian groups fought over hunting grounds

thefts caused group tension

interactions with white people caused epidemics to break out
