Ionic compounds are compounds made up of elements in which one has the tendency to loose electrons whereas the other has the tendency to gain electrons. Loss of electron results in the formation of a positively charged ion (cation) while gain of electrons results in the formation of negatively charged ions (anions). Usually metals have the tendency to loose electrons and non-metals tend to gain electrons.

Calcium (Ca) is a metal and belongs to group IIA in the periodic table with a valence electron configuration of 4s2

Fluorine (F) is a non-metal and belongs to group VIIA in the periodic table with a valence configuration of 2s22p5.

Thus, Ca will donate its outer 2 electrons to F, thus allowing each of the electronegative F atoms to complete its octet.

Therefore, we have:

Ca2+   +    F-        ------   CaF2

Randy is building a house. He wants to put stucco on the outside walls of his house. To make stucco, he needs sand. He lives on
allochka39001 [22]

Answer:

(c)-He separates the larger pebbles and other debris from the finer sand by sifting it with wire mesh.

Explanation:

A mixture is an association of substances that not react between them. It can be homogeneous when it's not possible to see the substances, or heterogeneous when it's possible to see each the substances.

Randy separates the substances of the soil with a wire mesh, so it's possible to define the substances, then the mixture is heterogeneous.

What are the intermolecular forces that exist between molecules of NH3, H2O and HF called ?
Ivenika [448]
I think, is HYDROGEN BOND!
This is some kind of  is the electrostatic attraction between polar molecules that occurs when a hydrogen (H) atom bound to a highly electronegative atom such as nitrogen (N), oxygen (O) or fluorine (F)... see image below! ;-)
