Find the value of W and X

Mathematics

Answer:

W = 13.33

X = 13.10

Step-by-step explanation:

You use Trig

S = O/H. C = A/H. T = O/A

For W we have to find Adjacent using Opposite, so we're going to use Tangent

Now we have Tan = O/A and rearrange this to find Adjacent

Tan = O/A --> ATan = O --> A = O/Tan

then we plug in A = 12/Tan(42°) which gives us 13.3273.... I usually round up to the 2nd decimal, so 13.33

To find X we do the same thing with a little bit of additional work

Since we already did the work for the last one, we can just skip a few of those steps

A = 12/Tan(27°) which gives us 26.4322..... or 26.43

But that gives us the whole bottom bit, which is X+W, so just subtract the W

26.43 - 13.33 = 13.10

Sorry if I'm bad at simplifying my wording

I hope this is correct, my math seems right, but the picture is not to scale

a baseball and a bat cost $1.10 and if this bat costs .10 cents more than the ball. how much did the ball cost?
kari74 [83]
Define x:
Let the cost of the ball be x.
Ball = x
Bat = x + 0.1

The total cost is $1.10:
x + x + 0.1 = 1.1
2x + 0.1 = 1.1
2x = 1
x = 0.5

Find the cost of the bat and the ball:
ball = x = $0.50
bat = x + 0.1 = 0.5 + 0.1 = $0.60

Answer: The ball cost $0.50
