In the early 1800s, America underwent a huge change in transportation. State governments and private investors began to build canals, railroads, steamboats, and turnpikes to facilitate travel by land and water. Between 1815 and 1840, these innovations spread like wildfire. Miles of canals and railroads were built as well as numerous turnpikes and steamboats. This change in transportation would help the future generation of America and at the same time, it would make the country more productive and make traveling much easier.
