In contrast with the Red Queen, the White Queen is quite distracted. When she first meets Alice, she is chasing after her shawl. The White Queen speaks of the shawl as a living being. She also explains the effects of living backward. The White Queen emphasizes for the reader the absurdity of living in Wonderland through her explanation of how things work. For example, in Wonderland the punishment is given before the trial or even the crime.
