If there is intense rainfall in an area where there is steep and unstable terrain, it can easily cause mass wasting by oversaturating the soil with water. The water that flows in the rivers with its power is constantly eroding the banks. If water freezes and turns to ice because its volume becomes greater, it is able to break up rocks with the pressure it creates on them.
