How do you solve a distributive equation

Mathematics

Let's say you are given the equation 4(x+5). What you must do is distribute the 4 to everything inside the parenthesis. What this means is that you multiply everything inside the parenthesis by the number outside the parenthesis (in this equation that would be 4). For example, the equation 4(x+5) would distribute as (4*x)+(4*5). This would then become 4x+20.

Subtraction.

First, multiply 5.4 with 15.75:

5.4 x 15.75 = 85.05

Next, add:

85.05 + 23.3  = 108.35

108.35 is your answer.

Find the nth maclaurin polynomial for the function. f(x) = 5x − 5 x + 1 , n = 4 p4(x)
zysi [14]
Assuming the function is f(x)=\dfrac{5x-5}{x+1}, and not 5x-5x+1=1 which would be its own Maclaurin polynomial right away.

\dfrac{5x-5}{x+1}=\dfrac{5(x-1)}{x+1}=\dfrac{5(x+1-2)}{x+1}=5-\dfrac{10}{1+x}

Recall the geometric power series,

\displaystyle\sum_{n=0}^\infty x^n=\frac1{1-x}

where |x|. Replace x\mapsto-x and we have

\displaystyle\sum_{n=0}^\infty (-x)^n=\frac1{1+x}

and so

f(x)=5-10\displaystyle\sum_{n=0}^\infty(-x)^n

We want the 4th degree polynomial, so

p_4(x)=-5+10x-10x^2+10x^3-10x^4
