Pathology :

  1. Virus enters tissue from saliva of biting animal.

  3. Virus moves to peripheral nervous system to CNS.
  4. Virus ascends the spinal cord.
  5. Virus reaches brain and causes fatal encephalitis.
  6. Virus enters salivary glands and other glands and other organs of victim.

Hence,Rabies bypasses many immune system defenses by traveling in peripheral neurons to reach the CNS. While anterograde flow  is NOT used by the rabies virus to reach the CNS
