Give me a summary of the burning of Atlanta.
MrRa [10]
Despite the defeat at Peach Tree Creek, Confederate Lieut. Gen. John Bell Hood still had hopes of driving Maj. Gen. William T. Sherman's Yankees from the outskirts of Atlanta with an offensive blow. On the night of July 21, 1864, Hood ordered Lt. Gen. William J. Hardee's corps to make 15-mile night march and assault the Union left flank east of the city, held by Maj. Gen. James B. McPherson's Army of the Tennessee. Joining the attack with Hardee would be the corps of Maj. Gen. Benjamin Cheatham. Hood attacked McPherson's position from two directions, Hardee from the south and Cheatham from the west. After initial Confederate success on the Union left, the heavy fighting settled into a struggle for Bald Hill in the center and the Troup Hurt home on the Union right. McPherson was killed during the battle, but the Union positions held. Fighting raged up and down the lines until after sunset. As at Peach Tree Creek, despite initial successes, Hood's attacks failed to dislodge the Federals who strengthened their foothold on the doorstep to Atlanta. The ultimate capture of Atlanta in September was extensively covered by Northern newspapers, significantly boosting Northern morale, and Abraham Lincoln was reelected by a significant margin.

Which of the following early African kingdoms was known for its stone architecture and pottery?  Kush
olga2289 [7]

Answer:

Kush

Explanation:

The Kingdom of Kush (Kuš or Cush) forms an important part of the history of Nubia at the time of the ancient civilizations of Egypt, Rome and Greece.

The investigations on Nubia were carried out in three stages. In the first half of the nineteenth century some Europeans visited Sudan, reported the ruins and brought some finds to Europe. The most important was Giuseppe Ferlini, who destroyed many pyramids in Meroe in his search for treasures, which concluded with the discovery of Amanishakheto's treasure. The Lepsius expedition drew, wrote and published on many places, temples and pyramids. Many documented temples are not preserved at present, so their notes are very valuable.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the second phase of the exploration of Nubia was carried out. It was systematically excavated in many places, especially in Lower Nubia, but also in Meroe (thanks to John Garstang). The construction of the Aswan dam in Egypt threatened to make many sites disappear forever. At this time the Meroitic writing was deciphered (thanks to FL Griffith), although the language still could not be understood. In the 1920s George Reisner systematically excavated all Nubian cemeteries and developed a list of kings for the first time.

The 18th century was the period of the European Enlightenment, which celebrated tolerance and human liberty . Paradoxically , it
sammy [17]

Answer:

The Age of Enlightenment, also known as the Enlightenment for short or the Age of Reason, was an intellectual movement in Europe that spanned throughout the 18th century. [Historians of race, gender, and class note that Enlightenment ideals were not originally envisioned as universal in the today’s sense of the word. Although they did eventually inspire the struggles for rights of people of color, women, or the working masses, most Enlightenment thinkers did not advocate equality for all, regardless of race, gender, or class, but rather insisted that rights and freedoms were not hereditary.

cogito ergo sum: A Latin philosophical proposition by René Descartes usually translated into English as “I think, therefore I am.” The phrase originally appeared in his Discourse on the Method. This proposition became a fundamental element of Western philosophy, as it purported to form a secure foundation for knowledge in the face of radical doubt. While other knowledge could be a figment of imagination, deception, or mistake, Descartes asserted that the very act of doubting one’s own existence served—at minimum—as proof of the reality of one’s own mind.scientific method: A body of techniques for investigating phenomena, acquiring new knowledge, or correcting and integrating previous knowledge that apply empirical or measurable evidence subject to specific principles of reasoning. It has characterized natural science since the 17th century, consisting of systematic observation, measurement, and experimentation, and the formulation, testing, and modification of hypotheses.reductionism: Several related but distinct philosophical positions regarding the connections between theories, “reducing” one idea to another, more basic one. In the sciences, its methodologies attempt to explain entire systems in terms of their individual, constituent parts and interactions.empiricism: The theory that knowledge comes primarily from sensory experience. It emphasizes evidence, especially data gathered through experimentation and use of the scientific method.

Why do you think the federal government included this provision as part of the Medicine Lodge Treaty?
Furkat [3]

Answer:

The United States intended the Medicine Lodge treaties to remove Indians from the path of American expansion, thereby avoiding costly wars. The articles of the treaties defined reservation boundaries, the Indian agent's role, and the government's obligations to the tribes.

Goldsmith wrote The Deserted Village to describe the results of the RestorationGlorious RevolutionEnclosure ActsTest Act of 1672
Andrej [43]

The correct answer is "Enclosure Acts".

The Deserted Village is a poem written by Oliver Goldsmith in 1770. It is a poem that makes reference to events that were affecting society in his native country of Ireland at the time.

The poem is critical of rural depopulation, which was a result of the Enclosure Acts made by the British Parliament which created legal property rights to land that was once held in common by communities of farmers. This policy favored the rapid increase in wealth of the people who owned the land, creating a gap in wealth in comparison to the majority of the citizens.
