Sum the costs and equate to 45

x + 6 + x + 6 + 3x = 45 , that is

5x + 12 = 45 ( subtract 12 from both sides )

5x = 33 ( divide both sides by 5 )

x = 6.6

Cost of and adult ticket = x + 6 = 6.60 + 6 = £12.60
