But we have one. I phoned home at somewhere around 8:00 or 9:00 and told her she could be a little late, but she had to turn on the TV. She didn't want to do but I insisted. So she did it. I saw her an hour later. There were streak marks coming away from her eyes.
She didn't say much. She just said "Who would want to do that? Why did they do it?"

President Bush was saying much the same thing. In general that's the way most people responded. There was shock and there were tears. The indignation and anger came later. But for a bit, everybody was a New Yorker trying to make out what happened. Trying to sympathize.

In any case that the government needs to limit one of the Americans Citizens Natural Rights, it’s most likely that they’re trying to protect the citizens. Although it’s probably very unlikely that this will ever happen. If it ever does, they’ll basically be breaking the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Which is technically not allowed.
