Answer:

The answer is 5.9

Step-by-step explanation:

1) Subtract 31.7 from both sides.

14 - 31.7 =  - 3x

2) Simplify 14 - 31.7 to -17.7

- 17.7 =  - 3x

3) Divide both sides by -3.

\frac{ - 17.7}{ - 3}  = x

4) Simplify -17.7/-3 to 5.9

5.9 = x

5) Switch sides.

x = 5.9

Therefor, the answer is x = 5.9.

a father is 5s years more than twice as old as his son. the difference in their ages is 25 years. How old is the father
swat32
In order to solve these sort of problems, we can set up 2 equations from the 2 statements.

f = 5  + 2s \\ f  -  s = 25
We can subsitute the value of f, our first equation, into the second equation and solve like this:
5 + 2s  -  s = 25 \\ 1s + 5 = 25 \\ 1s + 5 - 5 = 25 - 5 \\ s = 20
Then we put the the son's age, 20, back into one of our equations and solve for the other value.

f = 5 + 2(20) \\ f = 40 + 5 \\ f = 45
Thus, the father is 45 years old and the son is 20 years old.

Determine the kinetic energy of a 1000-kg roller coaster car that is moving with a speed of 20.0m/s.
elixir [45]
In this question all required information's are already provided. Based on these details the answer to the question can be easily determined. Let us now write down all the information's that are already given.
Mass of the roller coaster = 1000 kg
Velocity of the roller coaster = 20.0 m/s
We know the formula for finding the kinetic energy is
Kinetic energy = 0.5 * mass * (velocity) ^2
                       = 0.5 * 1000 * (20)^2
                       = 0.5 * 1000 * 400
                       = 200000 Joules
So the Kinetic energy of the roller coaster is 200000 joules.
