you'll remember it from now on:

16 divided by 2 is 8, so we multiply 1 by 8 and have 8/16

now, the three quantities given are 1 and 10/16, 2 and 3/16, and 7 and 8/16.
then, we subtract 1 and 10/16 from 7 and 8/16
