Prohibition—what is it? How did it effect America? What problems did it cause?
belka [17]

Answer:

Answer to question 1: Prohibition in the United States was a nationwide constitutional ban on the production, importation, transportation, and sale of alcoholic beverages from 1920 to 1933. Prohibitionists first attempted to end the trade in alcoholic drinks during the 19th century.

Answer to question 2: The growth of the illegal liquor trade under Prohibition made criminals of millions of Americans. As the decade progressed, court rooms and jails overflowed, and the legal system failed to keep up. Many defendants in prohibition cases waited over a year to be brought to trial

Answer to number 3: Prohibition led to a rise in crime. That included violent forms such as murder. During the first year of Prohibition the number of crimes committed in 30 major cities in the U.S. increased 24%. Arrests for drunkenness and disorderly conduct increased 21%.

Describe at least three problems immigrants faced in American cities in the late 1800's.
lutik1710 [3]
Immigrants were most likely unable to speak English well or at all. Wealth and status amongst immigrants were also a determining factor. Wealthier immigrants would have been able to make better lives for themself because their money would’ve given them opportunities the poorer immigrants would not have. Overpopulation also affected immigrant life as well as housing issues and the most pressing of all, discrimination. Besides being new to the land and unable to really speak the language in North America and coming from different economic statuses, they also had to deal with racism, prejudice, and even religious discrimination due to the heavy Protestant population at the time.
