They each buy tickets and $16.50 for parking.

First you have to figure out how much parking was for all three families together:

$5.50 • 3 (families) = $16.50

Then take the total number spent and subtract the total amount spent on parking by all three families:

$196.50 - $16.50 = $180.00

$180 is the total amount all three families spent on tickets. Now divide $180 evenly into three because they all bought the same amount of tickets, which will obviously equal the same amount of money:

$180.00 ÷ 3 = $60.00

Each family individually spent $60 on tickets only.

Now divide $15 into $60 because then you will know how many $15 tickets can be bought with $60:

$60 ÷ $15 = 4

This means that each family bought 4 tickets.
