Answer:

Mark as brainliest

Step-by-step explanation:

by using the formula for area:  A= L x W  substitute in what you know:   A = 54  , the length in terms of the width so use

L=12 + 2W.

Now when everything is plugged in you now have:  54 = (12 + 2W) x W

Then use the Distributive Property to simplify:   54 = 12W + 2W2

Since you know have a quadratic to solve get it in the form  ax2+bx + c = 0 so that you can solve it:

You do this by subtracting 54 from both sides and putting the 2W2 first so now it looks like this:

2W2 + 12W -54 = 0

Using the quadratic formula where a =2, b = 12, and c = -54.

Find b2-4ac which is the discriminant:

(12)2-4*2*(-54)=576

Take the square root of 576= 24

Now substitute the rest of the values into the Quadratic Formula:

It will look something like this:   W = (-b plus or minus the square root of the discriminant)/2a

The two possible answers are:

W = (-12 + 24)/4      and  W = (-12 - 24)/4

W = 12/4= 3            and W = -36/4= -9     (This second answer isn't possible because length can't be negative)

So the answer is:

Width = 3 feet        Length = 12 + 2W = 12 + 2*3= 12 + 6 = 18 feet

This checks because A = L x W     and  54 = 18 x 3

Consider the function f(x) defined by the finite set f(x)={(−2,5),(0,4),(1,−3)}. Graph the function f(x) and the transformation
Lelu [443]

let's calculate it step by step.

I'll assume that the function we look for is quadratic, because we only got 3 points

I plotted the 3 points for checking the equation later, and some intuited insight. see screenshot 1

let's write the general form of quadratic equations:

f(x) = a*x² + b*x + c

our goal is to correctly determine a, b and c

since we know from the 2nd point that

f(0) = a*0² + b*0 + c = 4

we can say

<em><u>c = 4</u></em>

this one comes almost for free

now to the next point, the 3rd one

f(1) = a*1² + b*1 + 4 = -3

we can write it as

a + b + 4 = -3

we can rearrange that to

<em><u>a = -b -7</u></em>

lastly, to the first point

f(-2) = a*(-2)² + b*(-2) + 4 = 5

simplified to

4a -2b + 4 = 5

since sort of defined a, let's plug it into our newest equation

4*(-b-7) -2b +4 = 5

we just swapped a for what its equal to.

now we just got numbers and b's

simplify it to

-4b -28 -2b +4 = 5

-6b -24 = 5

-6b = 29

<em><u>b = -29/6</u></em>

now we use the exact value of b to plug it into the rather simple equation from earlier. into this one

a = -b -7

a = -(-29/6) -7

a = 29/6 -42/6

<em><u>a= -13/6</u></em>

now that we got a, b and c we can write the whole equation

<em><u>f(x) = -13/6*x² -29/6*x +4</u></em>

see the graphic check in screenshot 2

second part of the problem:

if we want to move the whole graph 4 units down, we effectivly just cancel the +4 part

g(x) = f(x) -4 = f(x) = -13/6*x² -29/6*x +4 -4

<em><u>g(x) = -13/6*x² -29/6*x</u></em>

aliya0001 [1]

Answer:

q = -6p + 104

Step-by-step explanation:

Linear function:

A linear function has the following format:

q = mp + b

In which m is the slope and b is the q-intercept.

One week you charged $4 per guest and averaged 80 guests per night. The next week you charged $10 per guest and averaged 44 guests per night.

This means that we have these following points: (4,80), (10,44).

Finding the slope:

With a pair of points, the slope is given by the change in q divided by the change in p.

Change in q: 44 - 80 = -36

Change in p: 10 - 4 = 6

Slope: m = \frac{-36}{6} = -6

So

q = -6p + b

Finding b:

We replace one of the points. Replacing (4,80).

q = -6p + b

80 = -6*4 + b

b = 104

So

q = -6p + 104
