You are going to get a unanimous vote. Those who answered and one other all picked 4. My reason is because it seemed like the paper looked back at her. It is not so much the fact that it did look back at her: it was the way it looked back. "Vicious influence" is very strong language, and very negative. Hallucinations don't have to be bad, but this one is. The meaning, however, is inferred. That means that it requires interpretation.

Backing up this interpretation is what the husband says about fireworks. He's lived with her and he understands some of what she is going through. There is mental illness there. Hallucinations are only the symptom that we have to guess at, but there is nothing else you could choose.
