5 \sqrt{7}  + 12 \sqrt{6} -10 \sqrt{7} - 5 \sqrt{6}

Think of square roots of the same numbers as being like terms.

Think of

5x + 12y - 10x - 5y =

= 5x - 10x + 12y - 5y

= -5x + 7y

Think of sqrt(7) as x, and sqrt(6) as y.

5 \sqrt{7}  + 12 \sqrt{6} -10 \sqrt{7} - 5 \sqrt{6} =

=5 \sqrt{7}  -10 \sqrt{7} + 12 \sqrt{6} - 5 \sqrt{6}

=-5 \sqrt{7} + 7 \sqrt{6}

= 7 \sqrt{6} - 5 \sqrt{7}

Hi right now im doing homework about common denominators and for some reason I cant understand how to do it
goldenfox [79]
It would be great if you added some more details, but for common denominators you try to find the least common number that the 2 or more of the numbers you got have!
For example:
1/2 and 2/3 if you multiply 2 by 3 and 3 by 2, they both are 6, so you would multiply 1/2 both by 3 to make it into 3/6 and 2/3 by 2 to make it into 4/6!

kvasek [131]

<u>Answer:</u>

1/9 > -4

because -4 is a negative no less than 0. whereas 1/9 is a positive no greater than 0.

So negative no can't be greater than positive no.
