Amendments provide adjustment to cater the new social norms that didn't exist in the past.

Explanation:

Amendments are a list of changes or additions that  being put on the pre-existing constitution.  The first draft of United States constitution was created in 1787.At that time, it is designed specifically to catered the social/economic problems that American face in that time period.

It possessed a lot of things that would be considered as "wrong" if we see it from modern perspective. For example, the early draft of constitution only allowed White male citizens to vote. Women and minorities were not allowed to choose for their representation within the government.

This prove to be a problem as society got more progressive. This is why Amendments are needed. We put amendment on top of our constitution in order to fix the rules that might seems fair in the past, but clearly need to be improved for the people in the future.
