They have more of an emotional and real impact on those hearing the stories.

Explanation:

Hearing of events from long ago from a text-book, television or your computer is not as impactful as hearing it from someone who actually expierenced it. This is due to the fact that human beings are story-tellers and hearing the tales of old from our elders is more memorizing and touching than merely hearing it from inanimate objects.
