Given:

The set is:

$R=\{a,b,c\}$

To find:

The number of subsets in set R.

Solution:

Formula for number of subsets in a set of $n$ elements is

Number of subsets = $2^n$             ...(i)

We have,

$R=\{a,b,c\}$

Here, the number of elements are 3. Putting $n=3$ in (i), we get

Number of subsets = $2^3$

                                = $8$

Therefore, the number of subsets is 8 and the subsets are $\phi,\{a\},\{b\},\{c\},\{a,b\},\{a,c\},\{b,c\}$ and $\{a, b, c\}$.
