Sir Walter Raleigh was an English explorer, soldier and writer. At age 17, he fought with the French Huguenots and later studied at Oxford. He became a favorite of Queen Elizabeth after serving in her army in Ireland. He was knighted in 1585, and within two years became Captain of the Queen's Guard.
The Battles of Lexington and Concord, fought on April 19, 1775, kicked off the American Revolutionary War (1775-83). Tensions had been building for many years between residents of the 13 American colonies and the British authorities, particularly in Massachusetts.
It entered in 1821 as a slave state.
Jonathan Trumbull, Sr. is best remembered for being "<span>B. One of two colonial governors to support the cause of independence," since he was in fact that only pre-Revolutionary governor to retain a position of Governor after the Revolution. </span>
