Answer:

The right answer is "Marked the end of the use of wooden warships powered by sails and wind."

Explanation:

One of the major developments of the Civil War (1861-1865) was the construction, use and proliferation of ironclad ships. There was also an increasing use of steam power, shell guns, rifled ordnance and screw propellers and other new technological acquisitions. All of this was a reflection of the rising role of technology in armaments.

Further explanation

Battleships are ships used for military or armed forces interests. Generally divided into aircraft carriers, combatant ships, patrol vessels, transport ships, submarines and support vessels used by the navy such as tankers and tender ships. In some countries that have seas frozen in certain seasons such as Russia and Finland, for example, icebreakers are also used.

The presence of warships began when many kingdoms or governments needed or felt the need to assert their position in the waters while providing security guarantees in the waters to protect their country and its activities such as fishing and trade. In addition, there are also those who use their ships to rob or plunder other countries through waters. The Vikings of Scandinavia, many to explore the sea to other regions with ships known as "Viking Longship" specifically designed. During the exploration, merchant ships were specifically designed to become warships so that they could also carry weapons such as cannons, both as a means of defending themselves against pirate attacks, or even to control the area they wanted.

Technological development on warships is inseparable from technological developments in the shipping world in general. At first it started with a simple sailing warship equipped with paddlers such as galleys and viking longship which was only a single deck and equipped with archers, flamethrowers or throwers. The discovery of firearms and cannons as well as increased cruising range and cannon firing range require new types of ships that have large haulage and long cruising range to the ocean that gave rise to galleon type ships.

As a driving force, developing from the sails and rowers, steam engines that use coal fuel and diesel engines that use oil fuel. The transition from coal fuel to fuel oil actually became the rationale for the emergence of the concept of energy security. This concept emerged from the thoughts of Winston Churchill, who later became the prime minister of England, about how to get fuel oil supplies for the British fleet and guard it, where at that time and even today, fuel oil is a scarce commodity, but practical enough to engine and propulsion technology.
