Yes they are equivalent expressions. If you take the z to the power of two, and subtract that from the other z to the power of two, it is zero. So you are left with four which is the answer

System of Equations<br><br> y=-x-1<br> y+x=3<br><br> Solve?
ozzi
Solve by substitution

\sf{y=-x-1}
\sf{y+x=3}

Just plug in y=-x-1 into y+x=3

So we get:

\sf{(-x-1)+x=3}

Simplify that:

\sf{-1=3}

And since that is not true, that means this system of equations has no solutions!

Triangle J is shown below. James drew a scaled version of Triangle J using a scale factor of 4 and labeled it
Novay_Z [31]

Answer:

The area of triangle K is 16 times greater than the area of triangle J

Step-by-step explanation:

we know that

If Triangle K is a scaled version of Triangle J

then

Triangle K and Triangle J are similar

If two triangles are similar, then the ratio of its areas is equal to the scale factor squared

Let

z -----> the scale factor

Ak ------> the area of triangle K

Aj -----> the area of triangle J

so

z^{2}=\frac{Ak}{Aj}

we have

z=4

substitute

4^{2}=\frac{Ak}{Aj}

16=\frac{Ak}{Aj}

Ak=16Aj

therefore

The area of triangle K is 16 times greater than the area of triangle J

B) Estimate the depth where the temperature is 60 degrees C.

  • 60=10d+20
  • 10d=40
  • d=4 km

C) What is the approximate temperature at a depth of 4km?
