down vote favorite Is this correct? I want to say that those things seemed impossible a long time ago but later happened

1 - I (Have -add it or no?) never thought I would have ended up writing this letter.

2 - I have never imagined That I would have wanted anything like this.

I think the first sentence is correct, and you should remove the word have in the second
