In the Shakespeare play, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Hermia's father wants her to marry Demetrius but she wants to marry Lysander. Going against her father's wishes could result in her death so she plans to run off with Lysander.
In lines 204 to 207 we see that Hermia once considered Athens to be paradise but after beholding the beauty of Lysander, the love she developed made Athens appear like hell.
