Because Mr. Dunham always wanted an opportunity to work with animals, he decided to volunteer at his local animal rescue shelter

on Saturdays. However, there is a requirement that all part-time volunteers work at least one evening a week. He's not sure that he can meet this obligation because he often works late at his job. Clarification:

I found the complete instructions for the exercise online:

"Read the paragraph. Click or tap Two underlined words that are synonyms."

Answer:

B and C: requirement and obligation.

Explanation:

To complete the exercise, you have to select the words that are synonyms. The correct answers are<u> "requirement" and "obligation"</u> because a requirement in a job offer is something that is required, that is needed, to get the job, so it is a synonym to obligation, something you are demanded to complete or to accomplish.

How does the use of card-stacking support the theme in this passage?
Aleksandr [31]

Answer: Leaders will highlight the positives of every situation to make themselves seem competent.

Card-stacking is a propaganda technique. It refers to the manipulation of an audience by altering their perception on an issue by emphasizing one side and repressing another one. This is done through speeches, media bias or censorship. It is used by political candidates to discredit their opponents and make themselves seem more competent.

In this example, Squealer is trying to make Napoleon look cunning and clever because he was not "fooled" by Frederick into accepting a cheque. However, the animals do not know that a cheque is just as good as money and that Napoleon is actually ignorant, not capable.
