What 3 functions do proteins have in a plasma membrane?*

Biology
1 answer:
Aliun [14]3 years ago
4 0

Answer:

Explanation:

Proteins in the plasma membrane have several functions based on their components, location etc. For instance, if the protein transcends the entire plasma membrane it could be a transport protein, responsible for the import and export of certain molecules between the cell and the extracellular matrix (ECM). If the proteins are resting at the surface of the cell, facing the ECM, their role could be to detect components in the ECM, relaying a series of messages back to the nucleus so that the cell can ‘decide’ what it should do with this information (is it being told it should undergo apoptosis, should it begin to divide, should it migrate?). As well as this, it could be involved in the detection of foreign bodies such as pathogens. This is an extremely job for these proteins because if the cell does come in contact with a pathogen, the cell can use these proteins to engulf the pathogen and through a series of steps, present the antigen on their major histocompatibility complexes (either 1 or 2 depending on the cell type) or HLA’s for human cells. Thus it can be concluded that protein functions vary widely in the plasma membrane and due to the vast number of proteins that can be found there, it’s difficult to narrow down the exact main of functions of all these proteins put together.

55 Which of the following is an advantage of
Savatey [412]

Answer:

"It increases the mutation rate" is an advantage of sexual reproduction

Explanation:

The basic thing of evolution is fundamental, as it helps in generation of genetic variation on which the selection can act. Sexual reproduction leads to genetic diversity, and this genetic diversity leads to increase the mutation rate. Genetic diversity occurs because of two various cells which are combining together and biological assortment which happens at the time of cell division. Neutral genetic diversity in the population leads to high mutation rate.

How does the eukaryotic initiation complex locate the correct start codon?
cricket20 [7]

Answer:

The correct answer will be option-C

Explanation:

The eukaryotic translation takes place in three steps that are initiation, elongation and termination.

During the initiation process, the amino-acyl tRNA carrying the methionine amino acid binds the small ribosomal subunit. This pre-initiation complex of small subunit and tRNA now gets attached to 5ʹ UTR and starts scanning mRNA to find start codon -AUG.

The pre-initiation complex when finds the start codon attaches the large subunit of ribosome and form initiation complex. The formation of the initiation complex begins the process of translation.

Thus, Option-C is the correct answer.
