Read the passage about draft cards during the Vietnam War. During the Vietnam War, the Selective Service draft was in place. Thi

s was a system by which men of a certain age could be called to serve in the US Armed Forces. It was not a voluntary enlistment. Each man who was within the age limits received a draft card, and if he was called, he was expected to serve. The draft was not a popular system among many Americans. In 1965, a man named David Miller, a pacifist who did not believe in war, was the first to burn his draft card in protest. Believing the US should not be involved in the war, thousands of others set their draft cards on fire as a symbol of protest. What conclusion can be drawn about why thousands of men burned their draft cards during the 1960s and 1970s? They were attempting to change the policies of the draft. They were protesting US involvement in the Vietnam War. They wanted to declare their right to decide when to join the armed forces. They wanted to confuse the government by causing chaos in the draft system.

ad-work [718]

Answer:

He is unable to ignore the appeal of freedom.

Explanation:

An "inference" refers to a conclusion based on the evidences gathered or presented.

Frederick Douglas is an American abolitionist and social reformer. He's popular for escaping slavery in Maryland. He had a few escape attempts before successfully gaining his freedom.

The quote above was spoken by Douglas when he carefully thought about his condition as a slave and how it tormented him. As he became more educated and started reading books, he was awakened of the horrors of being a slave. Thus, he realized that he needed to escape and do something about slavery. Upon escaping, he settled with his wife and became an abolitionist and preacher.
