Check all of the items that are characteristic of a short story.
MatroZZZ [7]

Answer:

 • Can be read in one sitting
 • Has one plot
 • Deals with a single problem.

Explanation:

A short story is a narrative piece that presents ideas and themes in a lesser length. Since it has a shorter scope it must present one plot, deal with a single problem, avoid overcomplicating things, and should explore a precise theme through specific narrative devices. A short story rarely develops both main and minor characters, merely because of its length.

Novels, on the other hand, can develop both main and minor characters, and focus on multiple issues throughout the story.

What does "checking out Rex Walls-style” mean?
lozanna [386]

Answer:

Leaving without paying

Explanation:

When a person says they would check out "Rex Walls-style", it means that they would leave without paying. This term was coined after Rex Walls who left without paying his bills.

This can be used to mean entering a store (or any place you have to pay) and leaving without settling your bills.

10 points. Will mark brainliest.
Tatiana [17]

I would estimate that the first one is the answer.

I looked up the summary(s) for both the passages, and 'to build a fire' is about a guy who despite everything being against him, being persistent and dying because of his actions, while 'gumption' is about the hardships of african americans.

Of course, this is just my estimation.
